John Henry Begg was born in Lompoc California on December 27, 1949. Son of Janet and the late LeRoy John Begg, he passed away on Monday June 13th at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.
John attended La Purisima School and graduated from Lompoc High. John married his high school sweetheart Brenda Hampton in 1966. They had 44 years together and two loving daughters. John had many talents including woodworking, restoring vintage cars and classic Honda motorcycles. He most enjoyed relaxing at their lake house with his family and friends. His grandchildren meant everything to him. His latest project was helping his grandson rebuild his 84 Toyota Truck. John was a longtime local business owner starting with Begg Tire Center in 1973, moving on to J & B Trucking, then Valley Rock Landscape and Building Supply and Valley Rock Ready Mix.
John was very involved in the community. He was a member of the Lompoc Historical Society, the Lompoc Elks, Knights of Pythias and La Purisima Parish. He was loyal, loving and generous, fondly known as "Pops." He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him including his little dog Max. Ask anyone who knew him, they will tell you the same.
Survivors include his wife Brenda, mother Janet Begg, daughters Tina (Bill) Ancheta, Shera (Steve) Link, grandchildren Garrett and Morgan Dalcerri, Brayden and Bryce Link, brothers Wayne (Diana) Begg from Diamond Bar, Lester (Quinette) Begg from San Diego, James (Paula) Begg from Truckee and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, 123 North A Street on Wednesday, June 22 from 3-7 pm. The funeral service will be June 23 at 11 am at La Purisima Catholic Church, 213 West Olive Street. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge, 905 East Ocean Avenue.
