John Donald 'Don' Meglen, age 87, passed away at his home in Lompoc, California surrounded by his family on Aprill 22, 2018. He was born on July 21, 1930 in Butte, Montana to John and Bessie Meglen.

Don graduated from the Boys Central in 1948 where he was Co-Captain of the football team. He went on to attend the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1953. While at West Point, he played football under Vince Lombardi and Red Blake. In 1960 he received a Masters Degree of Science from Stevens Institute of Technology.

He married Maureen Duffy on September 5, 1953. Together they have five children: Cathy Des Marais (Tim, deceased), Tampa, FL, Donna White (Jim), Santa Maria, CA John Meglen (Keri) Encino, CA, Maureen Meeds (Lane), Lakewood, CO, Bonnie McDougal (Scott), Dillon, MT. They have 8 grandchildren: Jennifer Righi, TJ DesMarais, Zachary, Conrad and Darcy McDougal, Colin (deceased), Christopher and Sean Meeds, and Jeremy Meglen. They have 5 great grandchildren: Isabella and Sophia Righi, Coe and Addison Des Marais and Hannah Bunn.

Don was in the army for 21 years and retired as a Lt Colonel in 1973 in Spokane, WA. During this time in the army, they moved 21 times including 2 tours in Germany, 1 tour in Korea and 1 tour in Vietnam. After the Army, they moved back to Butte, Montana where Don accepted a position as the Deputy Director of MERDI 1975. He then worked for Morton Thiokol in Utah and California and finally retired in 1987.

Don was a loving and devoted husband, father and 'Papa'. His hobbies included football, golf, fishing and woodworking.

There will be a funeral mass at Queen of Angels on Wednesday, April 25 ^th at 10 am. Interment to be at United States Military Academy at West Point at a future date.
