JOHN MICHAEL KALUSKY
1942 – 2008
John Michael Kalusky of Lompoc passed away at his residence on Sunday, January 13, 2008, at the age of 65.
John was born on May 26, 1942, to John and Katherine Kalusky in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He was raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and graduated from Washington High School in 1960.
After high school, John joined the United States Air Force, serving in England, Spain, Korea, Thailand, and Turkey. John retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from Kelly Air Force Base in Texas after a 30-year career.
In 1991, John moved to Lompoc. He earned an Associate's degree in Business Administration from Allan Hancock College. He worked in Civil Service at Vandenberg Air Force Base for the Department of Defense. He was in charge of base paving and roofing contracts. He was proud to have participated in numerous projects in the city of Lompoc for which he donated time and materials including the gazebo in Centennial Park, the running track at Vandenberg Middle School and landscaping at Allan Hancock College. He also found time to enjoy the sport of golf.
John is survived by his wife of almost 22 years, Hyon Kalusky; daughters Shelley Kalusky of Schertz, Texas, and Brooke Kalusky of Lompoc; son Michael Kalusky of Lompoc; sisters Alice Kalusky and Mary Ann (Gene) Dirks of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandsons, Luis and Trenton, and numerous nieces.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 17, 2008, from 3 to 7 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Monday, January 21, 2008, at 10 am at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
