John F. Mc Caffrey (aka Pop) 85, of Lompoc, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2016. He was born May 25, 1930 in Cavan, Ireland and was one of fourteen children. John joined the USAF in 1950, served in Korea and Vietnam and was stationed worldwide. He retired with an honorable discharge after 20 years of military service. Pop's last career was owner/operator of Mc Caffrey Trucking and Tractor Service.
Pop is survived by his wife, Mary; Brothers Fr. Jim, Dan, Christy, Hugh, and Patsy of Ireland; Sisters Florie Burns, Breda Farrelly of Ireland, Rita Mc Caffrey of NYC and Sr. Helen Mc Caffrey of Brazil; Sons Dan (Gretchen), Tom (Christine), Jim (Kirsten), John (Tanya); Daughters Mary and Josephine (Steven Hunter); ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren with three great grandchildren due soon; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Pop was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Kathleen Mc Caffrey; brothers Peter, Tommy and Austin; sister Elish and daughter Margaret.
Pop loved going home to Ireland to visit family and friends, family BBQs "up the hill", long road trips, a good cup of coffee with a cigar. There is so much more that could be shared about our Pop, but those memories are numerous.
Viewing will be at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, Monday, March 7, 2016 from 4 pm to 7 pm with Rosary at 6 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 3495 Rucker Road, Lompoc on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 1 pm with burial to follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. After graveside services, a reception will be held at 1209 E. Barton Ave., Lompoc.
