Obituary

John Phillips, known affectionately as "Papa John" by his grandkids, was born on August 29, 1964, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, to Parents, Josephine and Johnie Phillips. John was raised in Vandenberg Village and attended local schools. He passed away suddenly on May 14, 2025.

John was a great musician and photographer, who shared beautiful music and pictures with everyone. He especially loved taking pictures of the Lompoc Valley Flower Fields and Sunsets. Music was a passion of his. Many hours were spent with him and Carmen singing and playing music in the kitchen. He loved to collect guitars and other instruments, as well as his prized collection of Halloween masks. John loved to collect cool things. He was always known for grabbing a rock or two on one of his many hikes. John was smart, sensitive, and kind to all, including his animal friends.

John is survived by his partner of 27 years, Carmen; son Johnie (Ashley), daughter Serena (Seth), brother Hence (Lele), brother Stephen (Dino), sister Dorcas (Craig), sister Shilo Lillith; 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
