John Z. Rodriguez, 84, passed away January 20, 2014, at Cottage Hospital surrounded by Family.

John was born May 31, 1929, to Juan Rodriguez and Frances Zapien. He attended Lompoc area schools. He enlisted in the US Army in 1951, and served in the Korean War. In 1953, He married Jenny Valles and moved back to Lompoc and started his family. John worked for Bodger Seeds for the majority of his life until his retirement in 1998.

John Loved spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids. He enjoyed fishing and taking rides with his four legged son buddy. His great grandchildren had the opportunity to get afternoon rides to McDonalds and the Lompoc flower fields.

He is survived by his wife Rachel Rodriguez, daughter Susan Reyna (Juan), son John Rodriguez, daughter Sandra Fletes (Oscar), his grandchildren Angelica Martinez, Mandy Arias, Ming Fletes, Brian Reyna, Tricia Magallon, Kara Rodriguez, John Rodriguez and Alec Rodriguez and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Jerry, Bob and Donald Hernandez, Joe and Richard Delira. He was preceded in death by his father Juan and mother Frances, brothers Leo, Buddy, Frank and his sisters Virginia and Blanche.

The visitation will be Friday, January 24, from 4-8 pm with the evening vigil starting at 6 pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Father Tom Cook will celebrate the mass of Christian burial at 9:30 am on Saturday, January 25, at La Purisima Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
