Jon Bailey, 63, of Lompoc, California, passed away by his wife's side on Friday, April 8, 2016. Jon was born in Modesto, California, on July 22, 1952, to Ray and Barbara Bailey. He lived most of his childhood in Modesto, Redding, and Salida, California, before moving to Stockton in 1961.
As a young man he worked his summers with friends in various agriculture fields as a farm laborer. During his high school years, he worked part time as a service station attendant, and he worked at various factories in the summer months. Jon attended Delta College, majoring in Administration of Justice, and worked full time, sometimes working two jobs as well as going to school.
In 1976, Jon moved to Lompoc for a job opportunity with Manville Trucking Company. He worked as a driver and a loader/swamper. In 1977 he met and later married his wife Sandi Bailey; they were married on July 15, 1978. They spent 37 wonderful years together and raised three beautiful children.
In February 1983, Jon attended the Allan Hancock Police Academy which would be the start of the life he loved as a police officer. He proudly started his career with the Lompoc Police Department in June 1983. During his career, he was a Patrolman, Detective, K-9 Officer, SWAT Member, Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, Equestrian Officer, Less Lethal Instructor, Active Shooter Instructor, and an Explorer Advisor. Before he retired, the police chief asked him to continue working part time as a reserve police officer.
After retirement in June 2012, he began working for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office in November 2013. He loved working in the courts and enjoyed the people he worked with and spoke of them daily.
Before and since his retirement and part-time employment, Jon continued to stay busy. He and his wife Sandi have lived on ten acres and have always been horse enthusiasts. He rode and trained horses when possible. He was always willing to help gather and brand cattle with his friends. He also enjoyed rides with his wife on his Harley Davidson motorcycle when time allowed. They both enjoyed travel when possible and took trips locally and out of state. Time with friends and family were his most enjoyable moments, especially time spent with his grandchildren, including days at the ranch or at their various activities and sporting events.
Jon is survived by his wife of 37 years Sandi Bailey, his son Jason Bailey, daughter Amber (Joey) White, son Nick (Becky) Bailey, sister Terry Newton, brother Steve Bailey, brother Joe Bailey, sister Tina White, and his six grandchildren.
