Jorge Perez was born in Oaxaca Mexico on May 20th 1939. He worked for Bodger Seeds in Lompoc for 39 years before retiring in 2001. He worked almost every position in the agriculture business from working the fields and driving tractors to working in the nurseries but his last position held there was as a mechanic. He passed on his skills to many of his friends and because of this he earned the nickname "El Maestro" (the teacher) who knew all there is about automobile repairs.
Another passion of his was gardening and would always help and offer advise on the best positioning of certain species of plants to his daughter in-law Tina depending on the time of year and sun exposure. He passed before telling her where he wanted the poinsettia he gave her last Christmas to be placed. He wanted to wait for it to get bigger before revealing the perfect spot for it to her.
He was also a huge soccer fan and loved to watch his favorite team, The Necaxa Rayos (Bolts) from Aguascalientes, Mexico. He was so looking forward to watching the Mexican team compete in the world cup but went in for surgery on June 10th two days before it began on the 12th and sadly never woke up.
Jorge died Friday July 4, 2014 at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.
