Vigil services for Jose B. "Gilbert" Moreno, 86, of Lompoc, will be 6 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Msgr. John Fitzgerald presiding. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

Jose was born May 4, 1924 in Moctezuma, Sonora, Mexico to Francisco Guadalupe Barcelo Moreno. He moved from Douglas, Arizona to Lompoc and worked at Bodger Seed Company for 37 years.

He died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Comprehensive Care Center in Lompoc.

Survivors include children Yolanda Vargas, John Vargas, Maria Ruiz, Laura Moreno and Francisco Moreno all of Lompoc, Joe Vargas of Santa Maria, Rachel Strode of Mendocino, Calif., and Catalina Moreno of Yuba City, Calif.; sisters, Rita Belasco of Douglass, Arizona and Maria Alan of Mesa, Arizona; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters, nieces and nephews, and former wife of 35 years, Josefa Moreno of Lompoc.

Visitation will be one hour prior to vigil services at the church.
