Jose Avila Morales of Lompoc passed away peacefully on May 10, 2013, at the age of 83.
Jose was born May 11, 1929, in Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico to Antonio and Josefa Morales. As a young man he immigrated to the United States, settling in Lompoc. He married Mary Terrones on September 11, 1952. Together they raised 11 children.
He was employed with Southern Pacific Railroad as a heavy equipment operator. He retired after 25 years of service.
Jose was devout Catholic and enjoyed spending time at his ranch and seeing his grandchildren.
Jose is survived by his wife Mary, and ten children: Joe Morales, Magdalena Baca (Arthur), Anthony Morales (Alicia), Emma Montoya, Maria Weihert (Rodney), Raul Morales (Annette), John Morales, James Morales, Gabriel Morales, and David Morales, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, various siblings, and his son George Morales.
The visitation will be Wednesday, May 15, from 4 to 8 pm with the recitation of the Rosary at 6 pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Tom Cook on Thursday, May 16, at 11 am at La Purisima Catholic Church followed by burial in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
