Joseph Fioti, age 75, CMSGT Ret. USAF, passed away at his home in Vandenberg Village, California on Thursday, January 17, 2008, while surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born July 23, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to Pietro and Teresa Fioti. The oldest of three children, Joe graduated from GAR Memorial High School in 1950. In 1951, he entered the U. S. Air Force. On October 5, 1956, he was united in marriage to Jean Shields. He is the beloved father of Jeannie, Terean, Mike and Joe.
After serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars, Joe became the youngest person in the Air Force, at that time, to reach its highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. After serving several years in the Strategic Air Command, Joe turned his focus to missiles and reached the level of Senior Enlisted Person on the Vandenberg Air Force Base. While still in the service, Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Laverne University. After over twenty years of highly decorated and distinguished service to his country, Joe retired from the Air Force. With his expertise in missiles still in high demand, Joe spent the next twenty years consulting to the Air Force, remaining at Vandenberg Air Force Base where he raised his family of five children.
Joe was a member of the Air Force Association, the DAV, and the American Legion. He was also a parishioner of Queen of Angels Church.
With Joe's passing, he has been reunited with his wife Jean and their son Mike, who both left us five years ago.
