Joseph Donald Frisby, better known as Don Frisby, was born September 12, 1912, in Riverton, Utah, the son of William and Cora (Ward) Frisby and the Grandson of Joseph Hyrum Frisby, former mayor of Provo, Utah. He was raised and educated in Provo, Utah, graduating from Provo High School in 1931. He attended Brigham Young University for two years and then graduated from Parks Air College in St. Louis, Missouri, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1937. He worked with his father in his younger years doing electrical work throughout the Provo area. He also worked for Pan American Airways in Brownsville, Texas, and later at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft in San Diego. He then worked for a short time at Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, CA, and was called back to Consolidated in 1940, where he was a Quality Control Supervisor, and later transferred to General Dynamics Astronautics Division working in electronics on the missile projects. He was sent to Cape Canaveral, Florida in 1957, and in 1959, returned to California to work on the missiles at Vandenberg Air Force Base. He retired from that position in 1977.
He had many talents and hobbies such as owning and piloting a Beech Craft plane and a Cessna Plane for about 20 years, in which time he and Bernice made many trips to interesting points; doing work on his lathe; and building and repairing various things. They loved to go on fishing and camping vacations; hunting for rocks and gems in the desert; he served a term as secretary of the Pacific Northwest Area Council of the National Management Association; belonged to the Classic Thunderbird Club International.
He and Bernice Ann Infeld were married on December 28, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They made their first home in Glendale, CA, and then moved to San Diego in 1940, where they eventually built their own home. They lived in Cocoa Beach, Florida, while working at Cape Canaveral, and then in the Lompoc area for the past 48 years. He entered the Lompoc Convalescent Center on December 19,2005.
He is survived by Bernice, his loving wife of over 66 years, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Howard and Paul Warren, Sr.; and a nephew, Paul Warren, Jr.
He departed this life on Sunday morning, December 3, 2006. Services will be held at the Mesa Oaks Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 212 E. Central Ave, Lompoc, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2006, with visitation at 1 :00 p.m. until the time of the services.
Interment will be held in Provo City Cemetery, Provo, Utah, the following week.
