Joseph Lloyd was born November 30, 1942 in Montgomery, Alabama to James and Mary Lloyd. Joseph spent his early childhood years in Brooklyn, New York. As a young child he always carried a bible and ministered to the neighborhood. He loved God. He was very athletic and ran track. He was so quick he received the nickname "Joe the Jett." He also played football, baseball, basketball and received many awards and trophies.
The family later relocated to Great Falls, Montana where he continued to develop and grow. In 1961, Joseph graduated from Great Falls Montana High School. The following year, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Korea, later completing his tour of duty in Fort Benning, Georgia.
It was in Fort Benning that he met the love of his life, Sandra Borders. The two fell in love and united in marriage on July 8, 1965. After Joseph's tour of duty ended, the couple moved to Far Rockaway, New York and welcomed the addition of two daughters, Victoria and Monique Lloyd. In 1973 the young family relocated and settled in Lompoc, California.
Joseph was employed by the County of Santa Barbara as a Park Ranger for five years, retiring early due to illness. He loved all sports and his favorite team was the Los Angeles Lakers. He never missed watching a game! He was a mellow soul; such an easy going, no-fuss type of guy with a great sense of humor. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, like gardening and planting flowers, playing cards and solving crossword puzzles. He was no stranger to the Barbeque Pit either! He loved to barbeque and often bragged about his slow simmering secret sauce, which by the way, was finger licking good!
Joseph was known in the Lompoc Community as "Uncle Joe" or "Papa Joe." He always made everyone smile with his famous saying, stated with a lot of emphasis, "WOW." He was an amazing friend, Husband and Dad, with a generous heart, who listened with patience and taught with wisdom.
Joseph loved his family. He was a hardworking man, a provider to his family, a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, who believed that marriage and family were paramount in life and he lived by the principle "one love forever."
While a patient in Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Joseph closed his eyes to eternal peace on May 10, 2014. He will be forever loved and greatly missed.
