Joseph R. Stockton was born in Beverly, NJ on November 17, 1921 to Russell A. Stockton and Musie Hart Stockton. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. During WWII he fought on the island of Tarawa in the South Pacific. He met his wife, Marilyn, while stationed at Kilehua Military Camp on the Big Island of Hawaii, near Hilo.
After the war he and his wife and young son, Russell (Wayne) moved to New Jersey where Joe worked in an oil refinery. After his daughter, Sandra, was born, the family moved to Hawaii, where Joe enlisted in the Air Force.
He served 24 years in the Air Force as a logistics technician, having tours of duty in France, Japan, Hawaii, South Dakota, Maryland, Massachusettes, Tennessee, and Montana. He retired in 1964 with the rank of Senior Master Sargeant.
After retirement from the Air Force, he and his wife moved to Lompoc, CA where he worked a short time for Quintron.
Joe and Marilyn traveled across the US in their RV visiting National Parks and all the Indian Casinos they passed.. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved playing poker, especially Texas Hold'em. He would proudly wear the jacket he won at a Chumash Casino Texas Hold'em tournament.
Joe loved to get on his motorcycle and check out all of the garage sales in Lompoc. He had an extensive collection of knives and multi-tools and took great pride in keeping them organized and lubricated.
He was preceded in death by Marilyn, his beloved wife of 65 years, his son Russell Wayne Stockton, and his brother, Frederick Stockton.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Woo. He was also grandfather to Justin, Jason and Jonathan Woo, and had six great grandchildren-Sascha, Marley, Braeden, Malia, Hayze and Bailey.
