Obituary

Josephine "Nana" Carpio, 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Lompoc, CA, on Friday, November 24. Born in Los Angeles to Fabian and Aurora Suvia, Josephine was the eldest of nine siblings, a guiding light for her family.

In 1957, Josephine and her beloved husband, Manuel Carpio, planted their roots in Lompoc, where they lovingly raised seven children. Nana dedicated her early years to her family as a stay-at-home mom, instilling values of love and togetherness that are her enduring legacy.

Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her home to the community. She contributed her caring touch to the Head Start program, Alisal Ranch, and the Lompoc Unified School District's main kitchen. Her final professional chapter was as a cherished in-home caregiver for the elderly. Throughout her life, she also embraced the treasured role of babysitter to many of her 19 grandchildren, each of whom carry precious memories of her love and devotion.

Josephine was preceded in death by her infant son, Manuel A. Carpio, her loving husband, Manuel Carpio, son-in-law Bill Webb, brother Gilbert Suvia, and sister Isabel Partida. Her loss is felt deeply by all who knew her.

Her legacy continues through her children, Ismael "Smiley" (Janet) Carpio, Teresa Carpio (Pancho), Angelina Webb, Frances Carpio (George), Amado "Buggy" Carpio, Ramona "Monie" (Dan) Thomas, and Maria Carpio. Her 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren will miss her profoundly. She is also survived by her siblings, Irene Gutierrez, Bertha Levario, Lilly Suvia, Fabian Suvia, Ralph Suvia, and Yolanda Terrones, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Josephine (Nana) will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary on Thursday, December 7th, from 4 to 8 pm, with a vigil at 7 pm. There will be a Funeral Mass on Friday, December 8th, at 12:00 p.m. at Queen of Angels Church, followed by a graveside service at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. The Celebration of Life will be held at the Dick Dewees Center, immediately after the burial.
