Obituary

JOSEPHINE "JO" KATHERINE FARLOW
1912-2007

Jo died November 15, 2007 at the age of 94. She was born November 25, 1912 in Hawatha, Kansas to John and Mary Maur. She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she attended high school, graduating in 1930.

In Kansas City she met the love of her life, Fred Farlow. They were married January 25, 1931. They came to Lompoc in 1946 where Fred went to work for J. M. They returned to Missouri in 1947 before deciding they wanted to make their life in Lompoc. They returned to Lompoc in 1949 where Fred again went to work for J. M. and Jo was a homemaker. Jo later went to work in retail sales; first with Browns Rexall, then J. C. Penny's, and finally in 1954 she went to work for Moore's Dept. Store. At Moore's she first worked in women's wear, later becoming a buyer and head of the linen department. She enjoyed her relationship with the Moore family and the lifelong friendships she made there. She retired in 1975.

She and Fred enjoyed traveling in their trailer to the mountains to hike and fish. They also loved going to Oregon to salmon fish. They have many happy memories of taking their grandchildren, who were the joy of their lives, on many camping trips. Later in life, Jo enjoyed taking trips with the Grange.

Jo was a very devoted and active member of the First Presbyterian Church. A cherished time in her life was traveling to the Holy Land at the age of 78 with a group from church.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Lyla and Arlen Sechrest of Lompoc; three grandchildren, Cindy and Clay Simon of Lompoc, Todd and Dawn Sechrest of Peoria, AZ, and Lyle and Luda Sechrest of Lompoc; nine great grandchildren, Jeramy and Cindy Pippins, Jason Pippins, Kayla Simon, and Casey Simon, all of Lompoc, Todd Sechrest and Melissa Sechrest, both of Peoria, AZ, and Brittney, Megan, and Hope Sechrest of Chandler, AZ. She is also survived by four great-granddaughters; Raven, Shylee, Erica and Zoey of Lompoc. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred in 1986, her parents, and her two sisters.
