Josie Martinez passed away peacefully with her sons at her side Wednesday Jan. 30, 2013.

Josie was born in Lompoc California on December 19, 1927 to Ramon and Gavina Diaz. She attended school in San Luis Obispo. She married Gilbert "Spud" Martinez in October of 1947. She started working at Lompoc Hospital in 1978 and worked there for 10 years in house keeping. She loved gardening in her backyard, spending time with her grandchildren especially her granddaughter Monica and going on trips and long drives with her daughter Bonnie.

She is survived by her sons Mike (Shirley) and David (Dena) Martinez; her sisters Rosie Martinez, Connie Rojas and Espie Diaz and her brother Edward Diaz. She also has 11 grand children: Johnny, Joni, Teresa, Michael, Paul, Monica, Bucky, Ronnie, Petey and Eric . She had 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son Patrick, husband Gilbert Martinez and daughters Irene "Bonnie" Martinez and Christine Martinez-Leyva. She will be truly missed.

Rosary will be held on Wednesday February 6, 2013 at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary at 7pm. The funeral mass for Josephine "Josie" Martinez, 85 of Lompoc, will be held Thursday February 7th at 10am at La Purisima Catholic Church with Burial to follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. The reception will follow at La Purisima Parish Hall.
