Joyce E. Carnahan, 72, of Vandenberg Village passed away peacefully at home October 20, 2014. She was born October 11, 1942 in Salina, Kansas to Carl and Elsie Van Fossen. Joyce volunteered with the American Red Cross, the NCO wives club in Okinawa and Vandenberg Air Force Base. She was the office manager at the Vandenberg Aero Club until she retired in 1998.
Joyce was an active member of the 99's flying club and the North Avenue Baptist Church. Her hobbies included photography, camping, boating, flying in her airplane and being with family and friends. She loved traveling with her longtime companion Donald Hurst who proceeded her in death one year ago. Her favorite destination was Hawaii.
Survivors include her sister Carlene Ostenberg of Salina; brother Dennis (Loralee) Van Fossen of Dallas, Texas; children Christy Gonzalez of Lompoc, Randy (Marilyn) Carnahan of Orcutt and Russell (Allison) Carnahan of Philadelphia. Grand-kids Brandan (Corey Edwards), Kalyn Gonzalez, Tim, Sean, Justin (Jessika), Jennifer Carnahan and former spouse Carl Carnahan. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gerry.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 1st at North Avenue Baptist Church, 1523 North Avenue in Lompoc. A reception will follow the service.
The family would like to thank members of North Avenue Baptist Church, neighbors, friends, and hospice for all the prayers and support during her final days.
