Juan (John) Manuel "Sugar Bear" Ochoa, a long-time resident of Lompoc, California, passed away on November 30, 2025, in his hometown, at the age of 72.
Born on August 13, 1953, in Lompoc, John was a proud graduate of Lompoc High School, Class of 1971. John was affectionately known as "Sugar Bear", a nickname that captured his warm presence and enduring kindness.
John worked for Western Farm Service, (Crop Production Service), which merged into Nutrien Ag Solutions, for over 27 years.
Deeply rooted in the community, where he was born and raised, John dedicated much of his life to mentoring young people. For over four decades, he coached Babe Ruth Baseball, where he left a lasting impact on generations of local athletes. His commitment to the game and to the youth of Lompoc reflected his generous spirit and unwavering dedication.
After retiring, John moved to Las Vegas where he found a new love for the Vegas Golden Knights, bowling, and many other adventurous social activities.
He will be remembered by many for his steady guidance on the baseball field and his deep love for family.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Frances White (Ken), Jessica Ochoa (Cruz), Angela Ochoa, and Diana Ochoa; grandchildren Natalya Jackson, Levian Faulkner, Sidney and Kyrie White, and Johnny and Andrew Ochoa; and great-grandchildren Axel and Vaida White, and Armani Lagunas. He also leaves behind his sisters Anna Chavez and Rosie Romero (Paulino); brothers Raul (Val) and Ralph Ochoa, brother-in-law Tony Vickery, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rebecca Ochoa, sister Susan Vickery, brother-in-law Ramon Chavez, and sister-in-law Gail Ochoa.
May John's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who were touched by his life.
