Juan Galvan Oceguera of Lompoc died Friday, July 31, 2009, at the age of 90.
Juan was born March 1, 1919, in El Quiringual, Jalisco, Mexico to Trinidad and Jovita Oceguera. He immigrated to the United States in 1943 as a participant in the brasero program. He traveled throughout the country working primarily in agriculture. He learned various trades to support his family including barbering, tailoring and jewelry making. A man of many talents, Juan enjoyed gardening, bicycling and playing instruments, including the accordion, keyboard, guitar, flute and trumpet.
Juan brought his family to Lompoc in 1973 from the San Fernando Valley. He was a member of La Purisima Catholic Church.
Juan is survived by his wife Ana Oceguera of Lompoc, his 12 children and their spouses, Carmen and Alfonso Garcia of Lompoc, Jovita Herrera of Lancaster, Juan and Juanita Oceguera of Michoacan, Mexico, Lidia and Efrain Barragan of Michoacan, Mexico, Ramiro and Rosie Oceguera of Lompoc, Efrain and Blanca Oceguera of Lompoc, Ana Maria and Adalberto Herrera of Lompoc, Sergio and Soledad Oseguera of Santa Paula, Ernesto and Lourdes Oseguera of Guadalajara, Mexico, Gloria and Olegario Fernandez of Lompoc, Jose and Suzanne Oseguera of Lompoc, Jorge Enrique and Irma Oseguera of Arvin, 39 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, a brother Jesus Galvan on Michoacan, Mexico, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be on Wednesday, August 5, from 4-8pm with the evening vigil at 7 p.m. in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Father Tom Cook will celebrate the mass of Christian burial on Thursday, August 6, at 9:30 am at La Purisima Catholic Church. Cremation will be followed by interment in Mexico.
