Juanita "Nita" Clare Main passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the age of 95. Nita was born December 7, 1922 in Gilbert, Arizona to Forrest and Frona Clare. After receiving both a bachelor's Degree and master's Degree in Education from Arizona State University she taught for many years for the Lompoc Unified School District. After retirement she became an Associate Professor for Cal Poly University supervising student teachers.
Nita married George V. Main on July 24, 1959. George was a member of the United States Air Force for 23 years before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1964. After 54 years of marriage he preceded Nita in death on November 5, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her grandson David Goodman, sister Pauline Nichols and Brothers Forrest Clare, Jr., Vernon Clare and Don Clare. She is survived by daughter Judith Main Goodman (husband Sanders) of Salisbury, North Carolina and daughter Georgia Main Davidson (husband Mike) of Prescott, Arizona, three grandchildren, Andy Goodman (wife Alyson) James Davidson (wife Renee) Hannah Davidson and four great grandchildren, Eli, Liam and Isabella Davidson and Anderson Goodman.
Nita earned her pilot's license in Arizona and was an avid pilot for many years. She and George spent many happy hours taking trips in their Cessna plane. Nita was also a member of the Vanderbelles choral group for many years. They made their home in Vandenberg Village where they lived for 46 years.
Starbuck-Lind Mortuary is charge of funeral arrangements. Following cremation she will placed in the columbarium next to her husband in a private service at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
