IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judith Johanna
Moore
April 24, 1940 – February 15, 2020
Judith Johanna (nee Steffenhagen) Moore, of Lompoc, California, was declared dead on February 15, 2020, at 7:54 PM at the age of 79, at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Santa Barbara, California a few short months away from being 80, due to the culmination of many pre-existing conditions taking their toll.
She was born on April 24, 1940 and raised on a farm outside of Red Wing, Minnesota. Judy earned her teaching degree in River Falls, Wisconsin, teaching in both Waupun and Wausau school systems in Wisconsin. In 1967 she joined a friend and fellow teacher traveling to Anchorage, Alaska to teach the children of military men and women at Ft. Richardson Army base outside of Anchorage. While there, she fell in love with and married an Air Force serviceman, James W. Moore. Shortly after, they were transferred to Colorado Springs, CO, where he worked in NORAD and she taught at a school outside Fort Carson. This was followed by various posts around the Washington D.C. area, as well as Naples, Italy, and returning to Washington D.C. before accepting their final assignment to Vandenberg AFB along the central coast of California. She loved camping, traveling and visiting family and friends year after year. She managed to travel to all 50 states in the union as well as most of the Canadian provinces. While living in Italy, she also got to see much of Italy, Germany, and Austria with her family.
She is survived by her husband James W. Moore of over 50 years and their four children; James Joseph Moore, his wife Kelly and three daughters, Isabelle, Haley & Lilly of Aurora, Colorado; Sean William Moore, and his wife Jane of San Diego, California; Michelle Marie (Moore) Taub, her husband David and their children, Mettabel, Atalia & Zebulon of Fresno, California; and Ryan Charles Moore of Lompoc, California. Also, her three siblings; Berdella Cooper of Red Wing, Minnesota, Lois Steffenhagen of River Falls, Wisconsin, and Kermith [his wife Judith] Steffenhagen of Prescott, Wisconsin along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Richard, Dale and Glenn Steffenhagen and a brother-in-law, Robert Cooper.
A very strong believer in her savior, Christ the Lord, she was able to take communion and sing hymns with her family and the pastor of her church, Star of Bethlehem Lutheran [WELS], a few hours before being welcomed in the loving arms of our savior.
She will be dearly missed, but it was such a blessing to have had her in our lives.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 20 at Star of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Orcutt, California, with Reverend Michael Foley officiating. Memorials preferred to the church or the National Kidney Foundation
