Obituary

Juliana (Ruimer) Damwyk was born on July 25, 1926 on the island of Celebes in Indonesia to Lies and Paul Ruimer.  She was the second oldest of 9 children. After the war, she met her husband Charles Damwyk and they were married in 1947 for the next 58 years.  When Indonesia became an independent country in 1949, Juliana and Charles repatriated to the Netherlands in 1955 where they lived until 1961.

When Juliana and Charles decided to emigrate from Holland to the United States for better opportunities, the Lompoc Presbyterian Church graciously sponsored the family.  The church provided a home and the necessary tools for the family to become self-sufficient.  They arrived in Lompoc in May of 1961.

Having learned the English language before arriving in America, Juliana enrolled in the Lompoc Beauty College.  Upon completion she worked for a couple of beauty shops before opening her own Glamour Girl Beauty Salon.  She was a successful owner for over 30 years and made many friendships.

After retiring,  Juliana and Charles enjoyed traveling including Indonesia and Holland vising families and friends.  Juliana was also a wonderful cook and shared many of her delicious native dishes.  It was not uncommon for her to show up at your door or place of business sharing her loempias or butter cookies.
