Obituary

Kenneth Charles Frey was born January 29, 1945 to Sidney (Red) and Helen Trimble Frey and left by way of the Rainbow Bridge on June 7, 2013. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his father-in-law Ellis W. Slater and his brother of the heart Ron Menezes.

Big Kenny was a creature of habit and while mornings were not a habit, his routine was. One of his favorite places to go was the Whistle Stop to hang out with Rocky and to "catch up" on local news (gossip). He would sit in the same seat every time he was there so he could see whoever walked in and watch "the show." This spot will forever be known as "Kenny's Corner."

Kenny used to build cars and race in Santa Maria, was an avid photographer and founding charter member of the Lompoc Valley Camera Club. He later worked on many motorcycles across four counties. He was thrilled to introduce his grandchildren to the joy of shooting guns, and for Kyle, hunting.

He leaves behind his wife of 30 years Sharon Slater Frey, his children Robert Jeffrey, Donald Scott, Laura Frey Harrington (Kent ), Jessica Gaylord Alvarez and Ronnie Menezes, Jr. (Wendy), his grandchildren Justin Frey (Laurie), Christopher (Ashlie), Leanna, Kellie (Anthony), Bryan, Ryan Taner, Vanessa B. Alvarez and his grandson, who was more his son, Kyle E. Robinson, six great grandchildren, three nieces, his mother-in-law Dorothy Slater and his brothers-in-law James W. Slater (Glenda) and Bradley J. Slater (Yvonne). He also had "rent-a-kids" Cassie Ashley, Cristi Brooks-Montgomery, Kristina Bethard-Webb, Brandi Delira, Sara Avelar Andrade, Monica and Robert Grice, Glenn Taylor, Ethan and Heather Karchefski and a multitude of friends.

We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Allan Bosko, Dr. Anne Little, Wendy, Vicki and Lennaya at Sansum Clinic in Lompoc for always making sure Kenny had whatever he needed and going above and beyond in every way possible. We also would like to thank Dr. Mark Abate and Dr. James Dunn of Sansum Clinic in Santa Barbara for doing everything possible to keep our precious Kenny strong.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations in his name to either Cedars Sinai Community Resource and stipulate heart transplant program, 8700 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90048 or to the Santa Barbara Cancer Center at 300 W Pueblo Santa Barbara CA 93101. We also ask that you consider becoming an organ donor.

A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11 am. Per his request we will start with a ride beginning at Miguelito Park where Kenny and Sharon were married, take a short ride to the Santa Ynez Valley finishing with a processional through town to end at The Whistle Stop for his other favorite thing, food. We ask that you bring a dish to share.

Kenny was the best husband possible, a loving father and the best friend anyone could wish for.
