Obituary

Larry Gene Johnson died unexpectedly on February 4th in Lompoc at the age of 69. Larry is survived by his sister Rita Timmons, his son Ronnie Johnson, daughter in law Leigh Johnson and granddaughter Jessica Johnson, Kenny Timmons, Lynette Timmons and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Oskar Johnson, mother Virginia Johnson and brother in law Tim Timmons of Lompoc. Larry was born August 24, 1946 in Lompoc. He graduated from Lompoc High School in 1965. He served honorably for the US Army in 1967/68 in the Vietnam War with the 114th assault helicopter company known as the "Knights of the Air" combat ready flight platoons. Upon coming home Larry shared his life with Emily Johnson, they were married from November 1969 to 2009.

After his service in the military he began working for Johns Manville Company / Celite as a mechanic and other various duties, until retirement. Larry was hard working and gave one hundred percent to every project or endeavor. After retirement he was often seen caring for his yard or the yards of family and friends. He was always helping friends or family whether it was painting their house or working on their motorcycle. Larry liked to hunt, fish and enjoyed everything about nature. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, country music and loved to BBQ for family and friends. He enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle and took several trips to Sturgis. He was a loyal friend and had compassion for anyone in need, Larry will truly be missed. A private ceremony is planned.
