Laura Mary McGinley of Lompoc died Tuesday, April 14th 2015 at the age of 101. Laura and her twin sister Lydia (also known as Lyda) were born Jan. 27th 1914 to Francis and Margaret Abbenhaus. They were delivered by a woman doctor in Bloomfield, Nebraska. Lydia did not survive infancy but Laura went on to live a full and adventurous life. Laura grew up in Nebraska and South Dakota, graduated from teaching school, and taught in a one room school house for four years.

In 1936 Laura traveled to San Francisco where she married William (Bill) McGinley. Laura and Bill lived in many communities around the West and settled in Los Angeles in 1945. When Bill retired they moved to Lompoc. Laura was a member of the Lompoc community for 36 years. Bill passed away in 1990.

Laura and Bill had five children, William, Mary, Dorothy, Nancy and Timothy. Their eldest son, William, passed away in 1992. Laura was also blessed with 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Laura enjoyed being part of La Purisima parish. She was a member of several women's groups and treasured the friendships she made through these activities. Laura enjoyed gardening and going on walks into her nineties. Laura had an excellent wit and memory and showed determination in pursuing her goals. With the tender loving care of caregivers and hospice services, Laura went to her reward on April 14th. A Mass in honor of her life will be celebrated Friday, May 15th at 10:00am at La Purisima Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

Laura is survived by her children Mary Shea of Alexandria, Virginia; Dorothy McGinley Brandt of Seattle, Washington; and Nancy Holt of Santa Rosa; and Timothy "T.J." McGinley of Los Angeles, California. She is also survived by her brother Gerald Abbenhaus of St. Loius, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill McGinley, son William D. McGinley and her granddaughter Amy McGinley.
