Obituary

Laurie was born in Santa Barbara, California in 1941.  Her family later relocated to Delano, California.  Laurie returned to Santa Barbara and attended UCSB where she earned a BS in Education.  She taught first grade at Crestview Elementary for over 20 years and, also taught adult education.  She did this while raising four boys.  After she retired, she continued to find ways to teach, including, teaching children and adults to read and teaching aquatic aerobics for the Lompoc Parks and Rec.

Laurie was a faithful member of Trinity Church for over 40 years. She was involved in Bible study connect groups and prayer teams.  In addition, she made week-long mission trips to Mexico as well as helping with Operation Christmas Child/Samaritan's Purse.  Laurie spent a month traveling to Asia, especially Viet Nam, helping again with Christian mission work.  On a personal level, she would reach out to others delivering homemade soup and cookies to shut-ins.  She was always calling and texting to share an appropriate Bible verse, always closing with "I Love You."  She reached out to others in such a humble and encouraging manner, and always with loving concern.  She was a sponsor and mentor for many people battling addiction.

The inspiration for the Lompoc Valley Fallen Warriors Memorial at Beattie Park, was conceived by Laurie as a meaningful way to heal from the loss of her son, Mitchell.  She spent endless hours researching and planning to develop this memorial.  Laurie took on the added responsibility of being the treasurer and the primary coordinator for all the many fund-raising events that took place to make this memorial possible.

Laurie joined the P.E.O., sisterhood (Philanthropic Educational Organization) in 2008.  She was very loved in the group serving as the treasurer for many years.  She was respected and loved by the other members for her sincere regard for others in the community and a determination under all circumstances to be faithful to her obligations.

She had a wonderful spirit of adventure and loved to travel, especially enjoyed visiting military parks in Tennessee and North Carolina.  While on trips to Nova Scotia, Peru, or the Panama Canal, she always took advantage of meeting with the locals over a cup of coffee and cookie.

Laurie was always full of encouragement.  If you ever had the honor of her supporting you at a sporting event or graduation, "Momma Lane" was always the loudest cheerleader.

Laurie is survived by her sons Chris, David, and Brian, sister Sandy, daughters-in-law Gina, Bebe, and Teresa, and grandchildren Noelle, Michelle, Owen, Kenley, and Zoe.

There will be a celebration of life held in Lompoc at the Trinity Church of Nazarene on Saturday, April 30 th , 4:00 pm with a reception to follow at the Family Life Center adjacent to the Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Lompoc Valley Fallen Warriors Memorial (P.O. Box 656, Lompoc, CA 93436) or the Trinity Church of Nazarene in Laurie's name.
