Obituary

Lavon (Vonnie) Taatjes passed away at Lompoc Hospital early Saturday morning on Sept. 15, 2012 at the age of 76 years and 4 months from heart failure. She was born on May 2, 1936 at Raymond, Minnesota, went to country School and graduated from Willmar High School in Minnesota.

Vonnie married Roy on her birthday in 1956 and was a dedicated Air Force wife, homemaker, and mother. Through Roy's military service, they resided in South Carolina, Wyoming, Illinois, and first settled in Lompoc in 1965. Later assignments in Sunnyvale and Guam were highlights for her that she enjoyed very much. During this time as a full time housewife, she raised 3 boys attending little league games and school functions.

Vonnie loved to garden, sew, bake, take long walks with her dogs, and to cheer for Roy at bowling tournaments. She has been an active member of the Nazarene church and community functions in the Lompoc area for the last 25 years.

Vonnie is survived by Roy, her husband for 56 years, two brothers - Warren, Marvin & wife Gail, her son Jeff and wife Karen, daughter-in-law Janet, 5 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Lonny and Troy.

Vonnie wished to be cremated. Her life will be celebrated at Trinity Church of Nazarene Saturday September 22, 2012 in Lompoc at 10:30 AM with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorial contributions be given in her name to Breast Cancer Research and/or the Humane Society of Lompoc.
