Obituary

LaVonne (Bonnie) Krauth of Lompoc died Sunday October 18, 2015. LaVonne was born December 2, 1928 in River Sioux, Iowa to Irwin and Garnet Rife. Raised and educated in Onawa, Iowa, she attended the Whiting High School and the National Business Training School in Sioux City, Iowa. After graduation, she was employed as a secretary at the Onawa State Bank. After getting married to Wilbur Krauth in 1952, there were several moves to other locations in Iowa when her husband accepted the superintendence of the Castana High School and later the county Superintendence of Monona County.
After being in Iowa for 20 or more years, Lavonne and her husband moved to Lompoc in 1964 and she has been a resident of Lompoc since that time.
LaVonne was employed at NASA until she resigned and started working on her teaching credential in 1969. She attended California State Polytechnic College in San Luis Obispo, California where she received her B. A. and M.A. in the field of education and a double major in English and History. She taught at Cabrillo High School for fifteen years.
LaVonne is survived by her brother in Ventura, her son Jimmy D. Krauth of Nipomo, two cousins in Iowa, and a niece in Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, her father and mother as well as her sister.

LaVonne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lompoc for many years and served as a Deacon. She was a member of the Cotillion Dance Club of Lompoc as well as a member of the Santa Maria Senior Club and enjoyed ballroom dancing and extensive training. She also was a member of VIVA.

LaVonne was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where a celebration of life will be held on Friday October 30, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
