Obituary

Lawrence L. Kaehn
(October 2, 1946 – May 31, 2013)
Long-time Lompoc resident Lawrence Lloyd Kaehn passed away May 31, 2013 at his residence, he was 66 years old. Larry was a gladiator--he courageously battled Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer, for thirteen years while surpassing all odds.

Larry was raised in Lompoc by his parents, Louisa and Peter Kaehn and his aunt and uncle, Alberta (Auntie Bert) and Harry Godet. He graduated from Lompoc High School in 1964. Larry attended Cal Poly-SLO University and obtained a bachelor's degree in Social Science. He lived in Eugene, OR and obtained a master's degree from the University of Oregon where his late brother, Daniel Kaehn, also studied and worked. Larry served as an officer in the US Army Signal Corps specializing in Cryptology, and spent time stationed in Korea.

After his education and military service, Larry returned to Lompoc and took over his family business as a painting contractor. He welcomed many to his tri-tip BBQs and took great joy in the many friendships he had in the community. Larry spent his free time trolling for salmon, diving for lobster, hunting for the next big buck, and rooting for the Oregon Ducks. Most of all, he loved God and his family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ann Kaehn, and his four children, Loren Kaehn and wife Lindsey, and their son Jackson of Boise, ID; Sarah Kaehn of Santa Barbara; Larissa Boyd and her husband Matt of Los Angeles; and Eric Kaehn of Dickinson, ND. He is also survived by his niece Mara Kaehn and her husband Max of San Jose. Larry was loved by many, and will be missed beyond belief.

There will be a celebration of life at Calvary Baptist in Vandenberg Village on Sunday, June 9th at 2 PM. Contributions may be made in memory of Lawrence Kaehn to the International Myeloma Foundation at www.myeloma.org. In addition, the Lawrence Kaehn Memorial Scholarship has been set up through the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation (AIHF), a non-profit group that helps prevent work-related exposures and diseases.
