LEO RAY McNETT
1919 – 2007

Leo Ray McNett passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 2, 2007, at the age of 87.

Leo was born in Sacramento, on September 25, 1919, to Olive and Clide McNett. He graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1938 and worked for Bank of America. Leo worked on the Kaiser "Liberty Ships" in Richmond, California, in 1942 as an electrician.

Leo joined the United States Army Air Corps on January 7, 1944, and was an instructor for the B-17. He was honorably discharged on October 5, 1945, as a first lieutenant. He was also a commercial pilot for single and multi-engine aircraft.

Leo began working in 1947 with Kaiser Cement & Gypsum Corporation in California. He was transferred to Seattle, Washington, in 1949, and became their #1 salesman for the entire state of Washington. In 1962 he was transferred to the headquarters of Kaiser at 1 Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles and was manager of sales for Southern California. Leo was transferred to Oakland and was a vice-president of the corporation. He retired from Kaiser in 1975. His career spanned 33 years.

Leo was a founding member of the Order of the Beavers and a member of the Elks Club, both in Grants Pass, Oregon.

After retirement, Leo moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, where he met Vi Bottroff. They were married in November 1991. Throughout their marriage, Leo and Vi spent time between their homes in Rogue River, Oregon, and Lompoc, California. Leo and Vi loved to play cards, dance, and listen to music. They never missed the annual Jazz Festival held in Medford, Oregon.

Leo is survived by his wife of almost 16 years, Violet Bottroff McNett, his daughters, Lea Rae McNett of Santa Ana, and Mary Lou Shlaudeman and her husband Bob of Huntington Beach, stepchildren, James Bottroff and his wife Carolyn of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Jan Webb and her husband Jack of Lompoc, 9 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Leo was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Hicks, in 1967.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lompoc Valley Historical Society, Post Office Box 88, Lompoc, CA, 93438, the Hope Presbyterian Church, Post Office Box 1047, Rogue River, OR 97537, and the Elks Club #1584, Grants Pass, Oregon.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at 11 AM, at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
