Leon Evans of Lompoc died Friday, June 27, 2013, at the age of 79.

Leon was born December 23, 1933, in Charleston, South Carolina to Arthur and Evelyn Evans. Raised and educated in Charleston he graduated with a bachelor's degree in business from Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina. After completing his military service he moved to Lompoc in the early 1960s. He was employed for many years as an automobile salesman with Sunset Auto Center in Lompoc.

While serving in the United States Army Leon took up boxing. He was competitive in many sports especially golf and enjoyed playing chess. He was a member of post 1717 of the VFW in Lompoc.

Leon is survived by his wife of ten years Teresa Evens, his daughter Beverly (Josie) Evans of Manning, South Carolina, son Racine Evans of Stockton, California, his son Kenny Evans of Oakland, California, a granddaughter Bryanna Evans, his brother Luther Evans, Sr. of Long Beach, his sister Eva Evans Lebson of James Island, South Carolina, a sister-in-law Roslin Evans and two stepsons Edgar and Jose Alvarez of Lompoc. Leon was preceded in death by his brothers Arthur Evans, Jr., James and Samuel Evans and his sisters Lilian Richardson and Lila Evans Brown.

A memorial service will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary on Wednesday, July 3, at 2 pm. Cremation will be followed by private inurnment.
