Leonard Bruce Heidt
1925 – 2008
Bruce Heidt of Lompoc died Friday, March 28, 2008 at the age of 82.
Bruce was born July 8, 1925 in Endicott, New York to Leonard and Jennie Heidt. After a military career including tours of duty in the US Marine Corp. and the US Army he settled in Lompoc in 1967. He worked as an electronic engineer with ITT-FEC at Vandenberg Air Force Base retiring in 1983.
Bruce was a member of the American Legion Post 211, the VFW Post 1717 in Lompoc, the DAV, the Vandenberg Rod and Gun Club, the Retired Enlisted Association and a life member of the National Riffle Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skeet and trap shooting.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carola Heidt of Lompoc; daughter, Tonyia Bridges of Sedalia, Missouri; sons, Gerald Heidt of Lompoc, Harry Heidt of Lompoc and Wayne Heidt of Sun City, California; sister Emma Lou Grimes of Tucson, Arizona; brothers, David Heidt of Blue Ridge, Texas and Jonas Heidt of Tucson. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Heidt.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, followed by private interment in the Lompoc Cemetery.
