Les Hartmann, 75, went to his heavenly reward on Sunday January 1, 2017.
He was a devoted family man survived by his loving wife Janet of 53 years, children Chad, Ty, Cheri and Pace, their spouses Susan, Shirley, Joseph, and Carrie, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his six brothers, three sisters, their spouses and numerous nieces and nephews.
His service in the Navy included tours in Vietnam during the war and a chance meeting of his future Navy Wave wife Janet. Les served in ministry at his La Purisima Parish doing what he did best, fixing anything that needed fixing. He had a long and distinguished career in the Aerospace industry including doing his part in several satellite launches at Vandenberg Air Force Base. A highlight of his life was attending the Pontifical College Josephinum seminary in Ohio where he studied several years for the priesthood and remained in close contact with many cherished classmates over the years. He also achieved the rank of fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus.
Born in Los Angeles to loving parents Raymond and Julia, his big heart moved him to jump at the chance to help anyone at any time, whenever and wherever he was needed, including travels out of state. Les touched thousands of lives, easily made lifelong friends, inspired many to reach their potential, and to always take the high road. His spirit will live on in each of us fortunate enough to have been part of his noble life.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 10 am at La Purisima Catholic Church in Lompoc followed by interment with military honors at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. A reception will be held following the interment in the La Purisima Parish Hall.
