Lewis Hartwell Aldridge, Jr. ,80, of Lompoc passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Diane Aldridge. Lew was born in Alhambra, California on May 17, 1936. He was the son of the late Lewis Aldridge Sr. and Helen Aldridge and the brother of the late Jocelyn Aldridge Keagy.
Lew spent his early years in Bremerton, Washington. In 1942, the family moved to Long Beach, California where Lew started school and graduated from Wilson High School. He attended two years at Long Beach City College and then the University of California Berkeley where he received his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
Lew and Diane met while attending the Presbyterian Church in Berkeley and were married in 1958 in Scotia, CA. Lew was drafted and spent two years in the Army Chemical Core at Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah. In 1961, the move was made to Lompoc when he went to work for Johns-Manville. He retired from Manville but worked at the plant when needed with a final retirement in the fall of 2008.
He enjoyed traveling with special friends (Wally and Audrey Kent) driving around the US or cruising the Mediterranean, East Coast, Caribbean, Hawaii, Tahiti and Alaska. He also vacationed each year in Palm Springs and Kauai.
Lew was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend who will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Lewis Aldridge III (Sheryl) of Lompoc, Lawrence Aldridge (Cindy) of Henderson, NV, Dan Aldridge (Diana) of Lompoc, and Joseph (Joanna) of San Antonio, TX; 11 grandchildren, Michael Aldridge (Jamie) of Lompoc, Larissa Morgan (Bryce) of Hubert, NC, Breena Aldridge of West Des Moines, IA, Ryan Aldridge of Lompoc, Casey Aldridge of Fresno, CA, Sawyer Aldridge of San Antonio, Kiley Shae Allen (Sean) of Lompoc, Shelby Gil (Luis) of Henderson, Jeffrey Aldridge (Annalise) of Santa Maria, CA, Tancy Aldridge, a student at CSU Bakersfield, and Ashlynn Aldridge, a student at San Francisco State University; three great-grandchildren, Beth and Liam Morgan of Hubert, NC and Austyn Aldridge of Lompoc.
The Aldridge family would like to thank Dr. Frederick Kass and all of the staff at Sansum Cancer Center along with the caring staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Lompoc Presbyterian Church, 1600 Berkeley Drive.
