Obituary

Linda Lea Knowlton Campbell passed away suddenly at home on November 29, 2008. She had been battling severe lung cancer since March of 2008. Linda was born in Caldwell, Idaho on May 14, 1942. She was the middle child between an older sister and younger brother. She moved to Henderson, Nevada in 1952 where in high school she met the love her life, Bennie Campbell. They were wed in Henderson, Nevada on December 20, 1958. A daughter Lyndene was born in Henderson in September of 1959. Bennie was overseas in the U. S. Navy and did not see his daughter until 1960. Following Bennie's discharge from the service they moved to Lompoc in June of 1961. Glen, their son, was then born in Lompoc in October of 1961.

Linda was the type of person to be involved in all of her children's activities. She was a sideline worker and did not want to be in the limelight, but rather was an energetic behind the scenes volunteer. She did her duties in Little League Baseball, Youth Football, Lompoc Arena riders, High School Bingo originator, plus any other activities that needed to be done. While a homemaker all her life, she still found time to be a school playground aide, initially helping disabled children.

She loved the outdoors and wildlife. In her early years, she spent time camping at the dunes and being the adventurous type, she would race the family's modified Jeep winning several trophies. The love of the lake and woods followed with her learning to water-ski and enjoying the beauty of nature. When Bennie retired in 1997, she retired from school and traveling in earnest began with a new motorhome. Anywhere in the United States and Canada was a destination. Membership in the Bounder Motorhome Clubs resulted in several caravans, bluegrass festivals, general campouts and yearly trips to Kansas to visit her daughter and grandkids. Her lifelong dream of going to Alaska was accomplished in 2005 with a six-month motorhome trip. Her final trip was in September of this year to Kansas where her grandson was married. With that, 49 states had been visited, some several times.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances Mae Day Knowlton in 1970, and Ralph Roscoe Knowlton in 2000. She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Bennie Joe Campbell, sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Scott Burroughs of North Las Vegas, Nevada, brother Ralph "Gene" Knowlton of Henderson, Nevada, daughter and son-in-law Lyndene Jo and Kelly Wayne Oldham of Kansas, son and daughter-in-law Glen Eugene and Peggy Sue Campbell of Lompoc, six grandchildren, David Joe and Stephanie Oldham, and Amanda Lea Oldham, all of Kansas, as well as Nehemiah and Michelle Kamery and Lana Kamery, all of Lompoc. She is also survived by five great grandchildren.

Visitation will take place Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., also at the mortuary. Burial will take place at a later date at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
