Obituary

Lindsay A. Libert of Lompoc died Friday, October 12, 2007, at the age of 85.

Lindsay was born September 25, 1922, in Westville, Illinois, to Frank and Ann Libert. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. After being stationed at Lincoln Army Air Field he was transferred to Bristol, England, as part of the D-Day invasion force.


Following his second enlistment, Lindsay was sent to the Yukon Territory, Canada, where he met his wife to be, Elise Switzer. They were married in 1947. Later that year, Lindsay was transferred to Correctional Custodial School where he was trained to be a correctional officer. As such, he served in Germany until he was sent to Lompoc in 1954. Lindsay retired from the USDB in Ft. Leavenworth in 1961 and returned to Lompoc to work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, from which he retired in 1977.

Lindsay earned an associate's degree from Allan Hancock College. He was a member of the Lompoc Elks Lodge 2274 for 28 years, a member of the American Legion Post 211, and the Federal Prison Retirement Association. He was a volunteer with VIVA in Lompoc and enjoyed fishing.

His wife preceded Lindsay in death in 1999. His daughters Zoe Jussel of Bisbee, Arizona, and Lynn Andrews of Lompoc; a sister Beverly Walls of Westville, Illinois; three grandchildren and one great granddaughter survive him.

At his request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lindsay's name to "Volunteers for Inter-Valley Animals (VIVA)," 133 North D Street, Lompoc, CA 93436. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
