Lloyd Ray "Mike" Raff was born February 20,1927, in Durham, Oklahoma. One of twelve children he grew up and became the best hunter of the family. At an early age he became a jack of all trades and master of none. In August 1945, he joined the Army as an infantryman and was assigned as a Medic. He left the army in 1946, and kicked around on his Indian motorcycle for a couple of years and worked as a farm tractor operator and mechanic. He decided to join the Air Force in 1948, and retired in 1975, as a Chief Master Sergeant. His Air Force career took him to Korea building flight lines in the jungle, remote Alaska working in refrigeration, England where he hunted pheasant with the Prince, and countless other places and adventures.
Upon retirement he established himself in Lompoc. He worked for the Santa Barbara County School District teaching ROP construction. He acquired his general contractor's license, real estate license, and his Broker's License. Mike was also a member of the Grange, VFW, and American Legion. He was an active member of the Lompoc Masonic Lodge and Shrine Club and held the title of President in 1987.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years Betty J. Raff in 2008, and was the last surviving sibling of his brothers and sisters.
He is survived in death by his two daughters Linda and Nina; his son-in-law Thomas Bulmer; five grandchildren, Jeremy David Raff and wife Megan Raff, Dina Maria Parent, Melissa C. Rovner, Mike Bulmer and Thomas C Bulmer; and 11 great grandchildren.
Mike was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, chatting with friends, working with his hands, and solving problems. A husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, teacher, mentor, and provider, he never met a stranger in his life and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016, at 10am in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations go to the Shriners Hospital for Children 3160 Geneva St Los Angeles, CA 90020.
