Lois Maye West Bender 75, of Lompoc (formally of Santa Barbara) passed away Thursday, August 17, of long illness, with family at her side. She was born October 1, 1930 in Leavenworth, Kansas to Bland and Helen Lucile Burke West. Lois grew-up in Bristol and Tulsa Oklahoma. She came from Cushing Oklahoma strong pioneer farm family where she learns to appreciate life.
Lois came to Santa Barbara in 1960 with her family and worked as a waitress for Keny's and Jolly Tiger Restaurants. However, she will probably be remembered for her many years at Little Audrey's on State Street. She had a smile for every customer and became good friends with many. Prior to retiring, she also worked for Kenny Roger restaurant on upper State Street. Lois enjoyed music, going to art museums, walks in the rain watching football games on TV, but most of all she loved being with her family and friends.
Lois was a lady with a warm heart, and a sense of humor beyond compare. She will be greatly missed by all and remembered in our hearts.
Lois is survived by her four children, Mary Ellen Chavez (Charlie), Daniel Earl Christian (Stephanie), Tabatha Lynn Hudson (Fred) and William Bland Bender; also a brother, Kennith Earl West (Lori) and his two surviving sons, Ronald and Richard West. She dearly loved her 9 grand children, Michelle and Jennifer Chavez, Heather Burritt, and her two brothers Jeffrey and Jordan Hudson, Daniel Earl, Jr., Angel, and Naiya Christian, and Alexandria A Rodriguez-Bender. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Bland and Helen Lucille Burke West, husband, Leslie Bender, her young son, David Robert Christian and nephew, Roger Dale West.
Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, 123 N. A Street in Lompoc. The memorial service is open to everyone, please come and join the family as they say good-bye to Lois their sister, mother, nana and aunt.
