Lucy Garcia Lyra's journey ended on December 16, 2014, in her home and she is now in paradise with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was 84 years old. She was born on November 29, 1930 in Austin, Texas to Christobal Aguerro and Jane Schmidt. Her real name was Stephanie Georgina Aguerro. She was raised by Santos Garcia and Jane Schmidt. He gave her a new name: Lucy Garcia. She married Ray Lyra on November 15, 1952 in Glendale, Arizona. He served in the Air Force for twenty one years and retired in 1971. He and Lucy and their growing family were stationed in Anchorage, Alaska; Luke AFB, Arizona; Amarillo, Texas; Chanute AFB, Illinois; Minot AFB, North Dakota; and finally Vandenberg AFB, California. He worked on the missiles.
They had five children: Ray Lyra, Jr; Lee Ann Lyra (who died a few days after birth); Jon Robert Lyra; Susan Ann Lyra; and Thomas Richard Lyra. Her grandson is Jon David Lyra, (the son of Jon Robert Lyra and Patricia Ann Espinoza. Jon Robert is own married to Judith Grames-Lyra). Jon David has four children who are Lucy's great-grandchildren: Serenity Yvette Lyra (nine years old), Kimberly Marie Lyra (four), Jack Lyra (three), and Amy Lyra (born May 28, 2014).
Lucy loved to sing in the choir with her son Jon, at La Purisima Catholic Church and later at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. She also loved to walk. She loved her children and she loved cats. She got her first pet cat when the family moved to Vandenberg AFB and had pet cats almost continually right up to her final year.
Lucy graduated from Lompoc High School and received her beautician's license from a beauty college that she attended in Lompoc.
