Luella Sabin passed away peacefully on November 16, 2011 just weeks shy of her 100th birthday. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 70 years, Lester, and is survived by her three daughters Nadine Watts, Nathalie (Glen) Berwick, and Jeannette (Barry) Pendley. Luella had nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Born and raised in Ohio, she earned her teaching credential at Kent State University where she met Lester. They married in 1934, started their family, and in 1952 they and their three children moved to Lompoc. There she joined the faculty of Lompoc Unified School District, first as a physical education teacher, and after earning her counseling degree, as a high school counselor until her retirement in 1977.

Luella had a generous heart, putting others first, volunteering her services at community organizations, at church, and offering friendship, food, and support to people she knew to be in need. Artistic talent ran in her family, and following retirement, she studied art, completing many oil paintings which her family will treasure. She also played both the piano and organ, serving as the organist at her church. She loved traveling, hiking, gardening, sewing, and most of all spending time with her family. We will miss her immensely, but are thankful for the time spent with her and for her long and happy life.

Our family would like to express our gratitude to her primary caregivers, Espie, Elizabeth, and Linda, who gave her such loving care and kindness these past 12 years.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary (123 North A Street in Lompoc) on Saturday, December 3 at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations in her memory to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast or the Lompoc Convalescent Care Center.
