Vigil services for Luis S. Chavoya, 86, of Lompoc, will be 7 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2008 at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A funeral mass will be celebrated 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. John Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
Luis was born July 2, 1922 in Tesistan, Jalisco, Mexico to Clemente and Julia Solano Chavoya. He moved to Lompoc in 1941. After 33 years of work in seed production, he retired from Burpee Seed in 1986. Luis enjoyed gardening, soccer, baseball, and in his younger days he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at home with family by his side.
Survivors (spouses) include daughters, Lisa Chavoya-Romo (Jorge), Lupe Chavoya, Anita Aguiniga, Marylou Aguilar all of Lompoc, Julia Monreal (Jose) of Solvang, and Rosie Jaloma (Jose) of Santa Maria; sons, Clemente (Beatrice), Ysidiro, Luis, Jr., Rosalio, and Vincent (Cecilia) Chavoya all of Lompoc; sisters, Esperanza Gomez-Chavoya of Jalisco, Mexico and Anita Gomez-Chavoya of Indio, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esperanza in 2001 and son-in-law Jose Aguiniga in 2002.
Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
