Lula M. Ricks was born on December 30, 1933, in Seneca, South Carolina. She was an amazing woman, who strove continuously for excellence.
She was the first member of her family to be a High School Graduate. She also graduated in her academic achievements with honors as well, including Summa Cum Laude. This made her Mother Pastel extremely proud.
She attended Clark University in Atlanta, where she received her Bachelors Degree. While at Clark University, she met her future husband, Willie Ricks.
They married and moved to Lompoc, California when Mr. Ricks was working in the Bureau of Prisons.
While in California, Mrs. Ricks gave birth to her daughter, Valerie Michelle Ricks, and her son William Douglas Ricks.
After that, she started teaching at La Mesa Elementary School, and later went to teach at Vandenberg Middle School. While at Vandenberg Middle, she was given the title of English Department Chair. Also in her Educational roles, she was the Chairwoman for the Lompoc Unified District’s SARB Committee. She additionally received her Master’s Degree from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
She was a proud member of the American Association of University Women, President of Beta Pi Sigma Sorority, Lambda Chapter for over 20 years, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She enjoyed traveling, some of her favorite places were to Alaska and seeing some of her daughter Valerie Michelle’s Opera and Concert performances. She was also very proud of her son William Douglas, who earned several awards in the Bureau of Prisons.
She has a Grandson, Cameron Alexander Ricks whom she loved very much- given to her by her son, William Douglas, and his wife, Valerie Ann Ricks. She also enjoyed getting to know her step-granddaughters, Britnee and Autumn.
Lula Ricks was an intelligent and confident woman, a strong leader, and contributed to the lives of others.
Her Funeral Service will be held on: Thursday, June 11th, at 11:00am at Calvary Baptist Church: 3355 Constellation Rd. Lompoc, CA 93436.
Her Burial Service will follow at: The Lompoc Cemetery 600 South C. Street Lompoc, CA 93436.
Her Viewing will be held on: Wednesday, June 10th at Starbuck- Lind Mortuary 3-4pm Family, 4-6pm Public
