IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lupe David
Munoz
May 21, 1946 – July 3, 2024
Lupe David Munoz, age 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at home in Lompoc, CA, on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, after a sudden, and thankfully brief, battle with cancer.
Lupe was born on May 21, 1946, in Santa Barbara, CA, to Patricio and Manuela (Valdivia) Munoz. He spent his formative years in Santa Barbara, where he attended San Marcos High School. On March 22, 1969, he married Barbara (Montoya) Munoz, in Santa Barbara. They were married for 55 years and had 3 children and 7 grandchildren.
Dedicated and hardworking, Lupe spent 30 years in construction and was a proud union member of Laborers, Local 591. He was recognized and respected by his peers for his craftsmanship, ingenuity and unwavering work ethic. Anyone that has driven in Central California, from Big Sur to Camarillo, has no doubt gone over or under a bridge/overpass that he helped build.
Lupe's life was filled with a variety of hobbies and interests. He was an avid surfer in his youth with many stories of traveling the Pacific coast in search of the best waves. He was a fisherman, a hunter, a gardener, and he had a knack for fixing things. He enjoyed exploring thrift stores and loved blues music. Known for his creativity, Lupe often designed and made his own tools, such as his custom thorn remover for nopales. And his never-ending quest to find or make the perfect pair of comfortable shoes became legendary. His unique humor and resourcefulness will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
Lupe is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sons, Mario, Geno (Angela), and Michael (Veronica); his beloved grandchildren, Isaac, Gage, Joseph, Delilah, Valentino, Gomez, and Vivian; his sisters, Patricia Leggett and Mary Vega; and his brother Rudy Munoz. He also leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins who will fondly remember him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Patricio and Nellie Munoz, his sisters Margaret, Logie, Cruz, Nettie and Linda, and his brothers John, Louie, Ray, Robert, Joe, Pete, and David.
Lupe's life was a testament to hard work, resilience, and creativity. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
A graveside service will be held at Lompoc Cemetery on Monday, August 19 at 11:00am.
