Lyle L. Starcher of Lompoc went home to his Heavenly Father, surrounded by his loved ones, on June 22, 2012, at the age of 83. Lyle was born on October 22, 1928, in Winchester, Idaho, to Carl and Ivy Starcher. Lyle lost his mother at the age of 7, and in 1937 his father married Olin Manning.
As a young man, Lyle joined the Army at Camp Cooke, California, now Vandenberg Air Force Base. He served in the Korean War as a heavy equipment operator. While at Camp Cooke he met his beautiful bride-to-be, Barbara Costa. They were married on June 22, 1949, in Lompoc, California.
Lyle was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He held many callings and often volunteered his time and his truck for many various activities involving the church and its members.
At the time of his passing, Lyle took great honor in seeing that the building was clean and ready for Sunday's meetings. Lyle had a personal relationship with his Father in Heaven and was a great example to his family. He was loved by everyone who knew him.
Lyle is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara, daughter Carol of Arroyo Grande, son Larry of Washington, daughter Marilyn (Gary Silbaugh), and son Michael (Laura). He had 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Lyle had a special bond with all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, each of them knowing that they were his favorite.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leone, Dale, and Murry and sisters Violet, Pauline, and Itha.
In addition to his family, Lyle loved trains, birdhouses, wind chimes, and working in his yard. He touched the lives of all he came into contact with by his smile, gentle disposition and humor. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, but they know he is not far from them.
