Obituary

Maida Ratcliff was born here in her beloved hometown of Lompoc, California on May 19, 1919, and died here peacefully on June 12, 2017, at the age of 98.

After graduating from Lompoc High School, she pursued her life-long love of music by studying at Drexel Conservatory in Los Angeles. Upon returning to Lompoc, she taught piano for many decades to several generations of young musicians. Over the years, she was the pianist, organist and choir director for numerous Lompoc area churches, including the Methodist, Presbyterian, and St. Mary's Episcopal.

She was honored to have been involved with the vocal music department at Cabrillo High School for many years, serving as the accompanist for the Madrigals. She also accompanied the Lompoc Master Chorale, and was a founding member and pianist of the Lompoc Pops Orchestra until her retirement.

Maida loved God, her family and her music, and she now sits happily in her Father's house, forever playing hymns of praise.

Maida was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill and her daughter Jo. She is survived by her son Gregg and his wife Mary; two grandchildren, Daniel and Samantha Ratcliff; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery on Tuesday June 20, 2017, at 10:00 am. Friends are invited to come share their remembrances. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the local music organization of your choice.
