Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the recent death of Malcolm Hearne.  Malcolm was born in El Centro, California on December 11, 1937, to John and Marjorie Hearne (deceased).  Malcolm passed on November 26, 2022, in his hometown of Lompoc.

At age 12, Malcolm's family relocated to Lompoc in 1949.  His father was employed by the J.C. Penney company and requested a transfer from Los Angeles to Lompoc.

Malcolm attended Lompoc Schools, graduating from Lompoc High in June of 1955.  In December 1955, he joined the Navy.  After bootcamp, he was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Bennington.  In order to get aboard the ship, he had to board an airplane.  The airplane had to land on the ship so he could begin duty.  To hear him describe it, it was like "looking down at a matchbox". It rattled him enough that he never boarded another airplane.

Malcolm married Maxine Howerton in November 1960 and they are proud parents of their son, Tom, born in April 1963.

For 35 years, Malcolm drove a cement mixer, retiring with Teamsters in August 1993.  He was an Avid NASCAR fan; he enjoyed traveling in the RV to go camping with his family and friends, and he loved going with Maxine and his son Tom to the Pismo dunes and riding in the dune buggy that Malcolm built. He has many friends that hold great memories of times with Malcolm.  He will be missed.

Malcolm is survived by his wife Maxine, his son, Tom, and his wife, Bonnie, his sister Pattie Young of Scottsdale, Arizona.

At Malcolm's request, there will be no services.  The family plans to have a celebration of life for him at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306, or any charity of your choice.

To my forever "car guy". BYE.
