Obituary

Mamie May Kennedy passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024; 98 days shy of her 102nd birthday. Born September 16, 1922, to John Williams and Olga Mae Van Hoove in Mustang, Oklahoma, Mamie married William "Bill" Kennedy on March 3, 1943, and served as a military wife and mother in various Air Force bases, including the Philippines, Johnston Island, Texas, Colorado, Alabama, New Jersey, New Mexico, Washington, Hawaii, and finally California. As a child of the Great Depression, Mamie knew hard work and welcomed it, including working at Vandenberg Air Force Base from 1964 - 2013, from whence she retired at 91 years young. Mamie was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 125.

Mamie is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William, and son, John Kennedy. She is survived by son William (Kathy) Kennedy, of Palmer, Alaska; son Tommy (Magdalena) Kennedy, of Macon, Georgia; daughter Lorraine (Ron) Reynolds, of Brandon, Florida; and brother-in-law Earl "Jack" Childers of Greenville, South Carolina; as well as 12 grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Mamie will be remembered for her razor-sharp wit, her generous heart, her adventurous (and often mischievous spirit), her love of cards and dominoes, and her willingness to laugh and bring joy to a room.

As per Mrs. Kennedy's wishes, her son John H. Kennedy, who preceded her in death on December 1, 2022, in Lompoc, will be laid to rest with her.

Visitation will be at Starbucks-Lind Mortuary on Monday, July 1, 2024, from 9-11:00 AM, with graveside services to immediately follow at Lompoc Cemetery. There will be a reception following the funeral at the Memorial Building 100 E Locust Ave, Lompoc CA.
