Manuel "Tata" T. Carpio
1927 - 2008
Manuel T. Carpio of Lompoc died Thursday, January 10, 2008, at the age of 80.
Manuel Carpio was born on June 17, 1927, to Teresa and Luis Carpio in Pirtleville, Arizona, and was raised in Douglas, Arizona.
Manuel joined the United States Army in 1950 and served in the Korean War. Formerly of Los Angeles where he met his wife, he had been a resident of Lompoc since 1957. Manuel worked for Johns Manville for 35 years and retired in 1989.
Manuel enjoyed camping, the beach, and watching sports on television. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion in Lompoc. He was a member of La Purisima Catholic Church.
Manuel is survived by his wife of 50 years Josephine, son Ismael "Smiley" and wife Janet Carpio, daughter Teresa Carpio and companion Panch Moreno, daughter Angelina Webb, daughter Frances Carpio and companion George, son Amado "Buggy" and wife Gina Carpio, daughter Ramona "Monie" and husband Dan Thomas, daughter Maria Carpio, all of Lompoc; 19 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Manuel was preceded in death by his infant son Manuel A. Carpio, and recently by his cousins, Elvira Cardona and Louie Carpio Aguirre.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM with the vigil at 5 PM on Thursday, January 17, 2008, at the Chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday, January 18, 2008, at 10 AM at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
