MARGARET M. CORDILL
1927-2008
Margaret Marie Cordill passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 5, 2008, with her family by her side after a 10-month battle with cancer.
She was born August 27, 1927 in Spavinaw, Oklahoma to Fred and Elnora Young. She moved to Chico, California in 1939 when she was 12 years old, and to Santa Maria in 1959. Later in life, she married Allen Cordill. They were married 30 years when he passed in April of 2002. Margaret moved to Lompoc in 2003.
In her professional career, Margaret worked as a Practical Licensed Nurse for 20 years. She also held jobs with Safeway, Western Union, and for a short time was a self-employed beautician. After retirement, she enjoyed painting in acrylic, oils and watercolors, and she was an avid bingo player at Chumash Casino. In her earlier years, she enjoyed tennis and baseball.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Gayla Lynn of Lompoc, sister Maxine Reeder, brother Gene Young, grandchildren Candy LaCombe, Carlos Tajon, Shane Shields, Taria Lara, Laree Lara, Julie Crandall, Freddie Lara, Kelly Pyne and Christopher Pyne; great-grandchildren Cindy LaCombe, Denver LaCombe, Michelle LaCombe, Sarah Crandall, Alexis Lara, Haley Crandall, and Alexis Pyne. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Allen Cordill (April 23, 2002), daughter Debra Shields (June 26, 1996), daughter Brenda Pyne (August 24, 1999), son Monty Doyle Huston (March 23, 1947), as well as six sisters and four brothers.
A graveside service will be held at Santa Maria Cemetery on Friday, February 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. The family will invite friends to a small reception following the service (details will be given at the cemetery).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Margaret's name to the American Cancer Society, 604 E. Ocean Ave., Lompoc, CA 93436.
